Now that France’s online gambling market has been opened up to international online casinos, operators are now looking to expand even further. Despite the country’s lucrative player base, a newer and more exciting opportunity is arising in the United States.
Currently, the United States has banned all online gambling activities with the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act). For years, politicians, players and operators alike have lobbied to have the law repealed, but it has only been recently that they have made any headway.
America’s recent issues with healthcare and the War in Iraq have prevented Congress from considering legalizing online gambling. However, the two issues have been dealt with and the federal government is now free to rule on the new bill that would allow American residents to legally play at online casinos.
Online casino operators from around the world are elated with the news, and many are looking for new ways to get into the market early. It seems as though the best route has been teaming up with American-based companies to form a joint online gambling venture.
European operators should be careful, however. There is talk that companies who jump the gun and enter the market preemptively will be prohibited from operating in the country after the online gambling legislation is passed.
