Bingo is one of the most popular leisure activities in the world among adults of all demographics, but a recent trend has seen an increase among much younger bingo fans. Today, teachers across the United Kingdom are using bingo to teach students various subjects, including math and linguistics.
For math games, the bingo card contains various numbers. The teacher calls out mathematical equations and the student must mark off the correct answer if it appears on their card. The first player to obtain a line, X or full card is the one who wins the game.
Language classes use bingo to teach students definitions of English words or translations of other languages. Either the teach reads a definition or a translation of a word and the students are required to mark of the correct answers on their cards.
It is certainly an effective and fun way to teach students the basics in a wide range of school subjects. Not only do students get excited about the prospect of being able to play a game during class time; they also obtain a well-rounded understanding of important educational topics. While the use of bingo in classrooms has yet to spread overseas, it is likely that more and more teachers will begin using the game as a form of education.
