Online Gaming Websites Receive a Feminine Touch

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Over the course of the past decade, as online gaming has increased in popularity, a wider range of fans started to log on to play online casino games and online bingo. These new demographics included female players and younger, more tech-savvy internet users. As a result, online casino operators have been trying hard to cater their games to a brand new audience.

These newer web designers often feature sleeker and more modern graphics. Previously, online casinos tried hard to emulate the land-based experience with bright colours and golden themes. However, as more young players started to appear at online gaming websites, the designs began to adopt cleaner and more simplistic appearances. This has certainly helped to boost the industry’s popularity among players in their early and mid-20s.

Online gaming designers have also attempted to appeal more to female players by getting rid of the formerly misogynistic undertones. In the early days of the online gambling industry, it was not uncommon to see half-naked women plastered on advertisements and casino homepages.

Today, designers use less gender-specific imagery in order to appeal to both male and female players. It certainly is a step forward for the online gaming industry, and women players have noted that they feel more comfortable with these changes.
