This week, the European Parliament has been discussing the topic of responsible gaming. As more and more countries across Europe begin to legalize and regulate online gambling, it becomes increasingly apparent that the European Union must take initiative in preventing the dangers that commonly come hand-in-hand with legalized gambling.
Today, the Parliament has heard from EU lawmakers and gambling industry professionals, each of which presented their strategies for securing the safety of the European online gaming market. Many speakers noted the importance of making online gambling a legitimate part of the European market, allowing for free trade and ensuring that there is a level playing field across the board.
“There is a unique momentum now to ensure that regulation delivers for consumers, the industry and Europe”, says Bwin Co-CEO Norbert Teufelberger. He believes that since more than 60% of EU member states are reforming their online gambling laws, it is now up to European Union as a whole to ensure that all parties involved in the market are well taken-care-of.
They are urging the European Parliament to harmonize regulation across all EU member states, so ensure that all players receive the same level protection – no matter where they live. It is interesting to see that professionals in the industry and lawmakers are working together to make online gambling a legitimate business and it is believed that their efforts will prove fruitful.
