Bingo is normally a game that brings people together, providing a valuable social experience to land-based and online bingo participants. However, the normally friendly game has force two friends into a vicious legal battle over a £10 000 prize.
Muriel Harrison and Sandra Fowler-McAllister have always divided their bingo winnings in half. But, after McAllister won the impressive £10 000 jackpot, she refused to share it with her now-former best friend. Harrison became so angry that she decided to take McAllister to court, seeking £5,000 plus costs and interest.
In court, this week McAllister claimed that she offered Harrison 20% of the jackpot. She stated that they had never made an agreement to share any prizes, and Harrison was wrong to assume that she would be given 50% of her winnings.
In the end, Judge Francis Reeson dismissed the case, stating the agreement was ad-hoc. Unfortunately for Harrison, judge believed that that the deal was never agreed upon by both parties, thus nullifying her initial claim.
Harrison has stated that she will seek an appeal in the future, but has yet to confirm any details. Representatives from their regular bingo hall have stated that they hope the two women will reconcile their differences, which seems to be the only solution left for the pair of former best friends.
