After the Netherland Antilles was dissolved, many professionals in the online casino industry grew worried about the fate of one of the biggest online gambling hubs in the world. Curacao, where many online gambling websites are based, is now a territory of the Netherlands; however, it is unlikely that the island’s gambling laws will be changed.
The Netherlands’ new government has recently expressed an interest in legalizing online gambling, despite the previous government’s desire to uphold its gambling monopoly and ban on international operators. Had the dissolving occurred when the previous government was in place, Curacao’s gambling hub would be in danger, but it seems that it will continue to operate as normal.
If anything, Curacao would be even busier with new operators and customers. The opening of Netherlands’ online gambling industry is seen as a very profitable business decision, which would provide the country with a significant increase in tax revenue. The market would have to be regulated by some entity and it is believed that Curacao would be the appropriate choice, given its already-established relationship with the country.
