Women Objectified at Online Gambling Site

Monday, November 29th, 2010 - Emily W.

An online gambling website based in Taiwan was recently shut down, after it was discovered that the operator employed underage ‘models’ as live dealers. Sixteen people were arrested for running and participating in the operation of the website earlier this week, and the Taipei police force continue to look for more suspects.

Allegedly, the website’s operators paid more than $50 000 to a single agency, hiring 40 models to act as live dealers and croupiers. The women were told to wear revealing clothing and a lot of makeup, unlike most online gambling websites which require dealers to wear typical casino uniforms. They were also told to hold the dice cups close to their chests to entice the visitors.

During the crackdown of the website, it was discovered than two of the dealers were 16 and 17 years old. Patrons were able to pick from who they thought were the best-looking dealers, ultimately objectifying the women.

The website ran for three months before it was officially shut down by the authorities. By that time, more than 1000 new visitors had registered for its online gambling services. There are still dozens more people attached to the operation of this online casino, and the police are currently searching for them.
