In Cheshire’s Ellesmere Port, a land-based bingo hall has raised more than £1,800 for a donation to Marie Curie Cancer Care. The hall set out to raise just £1000 but doubled its target for this worthy cause.
The Marie Curie Cancer Care organization is am initiative which provides free nurse care to terminally ill patients across the UK. There are currently more than 2000 nurses employed by the organization, who are dedicated to caring for those who need their help the most.
The organization needs £9,212 to be raised every hour of everyday in order to earn the financial support it needs to function. Last year, Marie Curie nurses worked more than 1.2 million hours to provide care to terminally ill patients and spent £80 million in order to make it possible. The organization also conducts cancer research.
Bingo has always been a charitable game, and it is great to see that hall owners continue to maintain this mantra. When bingo was first brought to the Western world, the game was played in churches, with buy-ins used to fund repairs and construction to the building. Today, charitable bingo is still widely popular and the game is used in many different ways to earn money for charities and not-for-profit organizations worldwide.
