The online and mobile gambling industries are growing at a rapid rate, a millions of users now logon to their computers everyday to play bingo, bet on sports and take part in online casino games. While this is great news for the online gaming operators, land-based companies are losing out and may soon face extinction.
According to a recent report, the shift towards online gambling could make land-based betting shops obsolete by the year 2030. While it will take some time for the land-based industry to peter out eventually, the reality is that it won’t be long before betting shops cease to exist as an increasing number of punters choose to their betting online.
While land-based bookmakers previously thought that they could rely on older generations to keep their businesses going, these customers have also been making the move to mobile and online gaming. The convenience that the online world provides is attractive to older patrons who are less inclined to want to travel in order to place their wagers.
By 2015, the mobile gambling industry is expected to be worth $48 billion. It is predicted that much of this revenue will be derived from the land-based gambling industry’s market share.
