Experts on both sides of the political spectrum believe that the US will see legalized online gambling legislation become law this year. Even though a similar bill was defeated last year, when presented by Harry Reid (D-NV), it's unlikely the same will happen this year. Currently some firms in the UK respect the US laws that prevent American citizens from playing online in the UK. Then there are the firms that look the other way and reap millions from US players.
With a possible change in US laws the question is now, "how will this affect bingo players in the UK?" One can expect to see significant changes in the online bingo community. There will of course be bigger promos, bigger jackpots and larger bonuses, but it may also mean many more players entering into the current environment and more customers will be sharing the winnings from jackpot tickets.
People in the UK will see a huge influx of players but they'll also have to take into account the time difference. With the US being anywhere from 5 to 8 hours behind the UK, timing will also become a factor. With over 300 million possible players in the US, many are speculating about the good and the bad of US legislation.
One thing for sure is that in the beginning the big names of will cash in big time. As players start to see less winning at the big name sites, they'll most likely move on to the smaller bingo sites. Both the larger bingo sites and the smaller ones will most definitely be the winners. We'll have to wait and see the effect on players.
