As the debate continues over the safety of online gaming, governments across Europe are doing their part to fight the dangers that can arise in the online gaming world. The UK has recently announced its plans to make the online gaming industry safer for players, but the news has left operators dismayed.
As part of the country’s proposed laws, operators who are not based in the UK will be prohibited from offering their products to residents in the country. Under the current Gambling Act, operators from other countries are not required to meet safe gambling requirements.
The new laws would only allow operators with offices in the UK to advertise their games to players in the country. If the changes are accepted, hundreds of online gaming operators could be excluded from the UK’s gambling industry.
In another effort to protect players online, the UK government is also considering banning the use of credit cards at online bingo and other online gaming sites. It is believed that credit cards encourage players to spend money that they may not have at online casinos and the government is considering banning payment methods that are not directly funded from a player’s bank account.
