In Texas, the game of bingo is helping a young child battle a deadly disease. On December 21th, 2010, Travis Bell was diagnosed with Leukemia. At just nine-years-old, the news of such a diagnosis should be devastating, but the community has rallied behind Travis and his family to help them deal with the disease.
Tonight, at the Corrigan-Camden highschool, friends, family and other members of the community will gather to support the Bell family. A charity bingo game will be held, with all proceeds going to help Travis and his family.
Each bingo card will cost $1 and patrons can also purchase a bowl of chili for $5. Prizes will include an iPhone, iPhone and a big-screen TV. So, if the prospect of helping out a community member isn’t enough for some people, the prizes are sure to draw a crowd. There will also be an auction, from which all proceeds will benefit the Bell family.
Bingo has long been a fundraising tool, and stories like this illustrate how useful the game can be for someone in need.
