The bingo community – both online and offline – are congratulating the brave efforts of bingo caller Ann Timson (aka SuperGran), after helping to stop a robbery in Northampton.
Last night, SuperGran encountered a group of criminals in the process of robbing a local jewelry store. Armed with only her purse, she managed to shoo the robbers away from the scene of the potential crime. Her brave efforts were caught on tape by a passerby, and she is now famous on the internet for her good deed.
The video depicts the red-headed grandmother running towards a group of thugs from a distance, as they attempt to break the store’s windows with bats. As she approaches the criminals, she begins swinging her bag, frightening the group of males into hopping on their scooters and taking off.
“She demonstrated a true community spirit in waning to help others,” says Suzette Davenport of the Northamptonshire Police. “We should acknowledge that this did involve a clear element of risk”.
The 71-year-old hero was reported by her local newspaper as being employed as a bingo caller at a hall in her town, but she is involved the community in a variety of other ways. According to the Daily Mail, she has also taken on the issue of drugs and prostitution in the neighbourhood.
