Smoking Ban Hits Australian Gaming Venues

It seems the opposition to online gambling in certain parts of Australia also extends to smoking in casinos. Recently anti-online gambling activist Nick Xenophon has campaigned against smoking in brick-and-mortar casinos.

The senator in the Australian government is also well known for his anti-online gambling views and he’s opposed any kind of regulation for things like online poker.

The Sky City Casino was criticized for their smoking policies inside the brick-and-mortar building so the proposal they came up with was to move some slot machines to the outside corner where the smoke would dissipate. A recent article says the fault with the Australian senator’s thinking is a typical fault with big business across the globe in that it should direct people's behaviors.

Here it's not just about smoking cigarettes but in Xenophon’s case it’s also about online gambling and his opposition to it for the people of Australia even though statistics show they spend a tremendous amount of money with illegal offshore online casinos at the present time. A similar dilemma has occurred in the UK with one possible solution being allowing casinos to apply for smoking licenses.
