A Mecca Bingo hall in Southampton may be turned into a ‘super church’, according to a report by This Is Hampshire news. The former bingo venue has been sold to a local religious organization. The hall was not originally up for sale and the religious group’s offer was unsolicited.
The jobs of twenty locals are now at risk, as the bingo hall faces closure to make way for the new church. Players at the hall are also devastated by the news, as there are over 34 000 players that are currently registered with the venue. The hall has been a fixture in the community for over 40 years and players will be sad to see it go.
This is just one of many bingo hall closures in recent months, as dozens of similar venues have shut down due to financial circumstances. Players can continue to take part in their favourite leisure activity, however. There are currently hundreds of online bingo websites available, where players can compete for impressive cash prizes in a social and fun environment. While it may take some getting used to, many former land-based players have already made the transition and are happy with their decision to have done so.
