Currently, Android and Apple mobile communication devices are the most popular in the industry. While many users are happy with the selection, some feel that the mobile market could stand to be a little more diverse. That’s why developers in Europe are working on a way to launch a new mobile operating system that will compete with the two current industry leaders.
There are now three projects on the go across Europe: Symbian, WebinOS and Mosquito. Currently, Symbian is has made the most progress, after recently releasing two new phones to work with the operating system.
The European Union has launched an initiative to develop more European-centric software, and Symbian has become a vital focus for the effort. The European Union has donated €11 million Euros to the development of European-based mobile solutions.
With a great deal of funding, the Symbian is likely to become a rival for Android and Apple devices. According to industry experts, the operating system will present a low-cost alternative, marking a new niche in the mobile entertainment industry.
