While gambling addiction seems to strike those that play high stakes games like poker and roulette, bingo halls around the world are taking it upon themselves to help those with gambling problems. This week, the GREaT Foundation (Gambling Research Education and Treatment of gambling problems) has awarded its top donors for their help and support over the past year.
Astoria Bingo Club and The Rank Group, two of the bingo industry’s biggest companies, were named “Gold” Award winners. This means that they were among the top donors for the year of 2010. Several other bingo halls and operators were named “Silver” Award winners.
According to Geoffrey Gobold, Director of the Great Foundation, last year was tough for the gambling industry as a whole. While companies still struggled to recover from the global recession, raising funds for problem gambling initiatives was put on the back burner. However, a select few bingo halls and other gambling operators stepped forward and lent a hand, despite the tough economic times.
As such, the game of bingo continues to maintain its dedication to raising funds for worthy causes.
