The website for the London 2012 Olympics extended its 11:59pm deadline on April 26th to April 27th at 1am. The website experienced a great deal of stress as the deadline neared, causing difficulty for many individuals who wished to apply for tickets at the event. To compensate, the site extended its deadline by just one hour.
At around 10:30pm, an influx of users logged onto the website, hoping to get in some last minute bids for tickets. This flood of activity caused the website to experience technical difficulties, and many of the procrastinating patrons were forced to wait until the London 2012 website could deal with the capacity.
Just an hour later, the website was back up and working to full capacity, allowing players to apply for the tickets of their choice. However, after missing out on an hour, users were granted an extension so that they would not feel rushed to make their selections.
There are 6.6 million tickets on sale for the 2012 Olympics for 650 sessions across 17 days of competition. Tickets range from £20 to £2012, and the most popular events for sale were the opening ceremonies and the men’s 100m final.
