Online Gaming Domain Sells for $2 Million USD

Although not necessarily indicative of a new American owner, there is speculation that the new person(s) who bought Gambing.com could be from the United States since the transaction was carried out in American dollars.

Media Corp chief executive Justin Drummond recently said that he was very pleased with the sale of the domain for US$2.5m that deals with, among other things, online gambling and online poker. This optimism is present even though the sale price falls well below the US$20m Media Corp paid for the domain six years ago.

There were some economic hardships along the way as well when Google imposed some restrictions on the domain that caused its revenues to fall 62% in 2007. These restrictions were subsequently lifted in 2009.

Liesbeth Mack-de-Boer, CSO at Sedo, helped to broker the deal and she recently said that the sales was good for both the domain selling industry and the internet online gambling industry across the world. The online poker industry in particular has been reeling since the DoJ in the United States seized several top name sites in a move that’s become known as Black Friday. The move has sent shockwaves through the online poker industry.
