In a recent interview about his new gameshow, Red or Black, Simon Cowell admitted to taking part in casual gambling activities. We all know that buying scratch cards and playing the lottery are common activities across the UK, but who would have expected one of the country’s richest men to take part in these kinds of activities?
In an interview with Ant & Dec, an audience member asked if he took part in gambling activities like buying scratch cards. He responded positively, stating that he does, indeed, buy scratch cards and lottery tickets on occasion. He was then asked about his roulette habits and how much money is the most he’s spent in a single spin of the wheel, to which he replied “£500”. Pretty modest for someone that we would expect to be a high roller!
Simon Cowell was on the air to promote his new show called Red or Black, in which individuals earn their spot on the show by purchasing tickets worth £1. Once they make it to the final round, they have the chance of winning up to £15 million worth of prizes.
Cowell has been planning the show since 2004 and finally has the capital to make it possible. He stated that he wanted to make it a “big event” show, in which players could actually win exorbitant prizes. The show will begin airing in September.
