The EuroVision song contest is one of the biggest television events of the year. Songwriters from 43 European countries vie for the affection of the entire continent. Today is the grand final for the competition, where the 25 top contestants will perform. This year’s event has garnered a great deal of attention from online betting sites, as viewers take to sportsbooks to bet on the act that they think will win.
Currently, France’s Amaury Vassili is predicted to come out on top with odds of 6/4 at some of the best online betting sites. His unique operatic style seems to have captured the hearts of viewers across the continent, but will it be enough to be beat the popular duo Jedward? The Irish twins are have odds of 4/1, based on their existing popularity. In addition to having a catchy Gaga-esque song (“Lipstick”), they were already winners of last year’s X-Factor competition, giving them a competitive edge over the other contestants.
The United Kingdom is also a favourite to win, as popular boy-band Blue are this year’s representatives for the country. With a heart-wrenching ballad, Blue (“Breathe Easy”) has done a great job of setting themselves apart from the rest of the competition. Blue is also one of the most popular pop acts to come out of the UK, with millions of albums sold and dozens of Top Ten hits. The group is also expected to do well, as the EuroVision contest marks the first occasion that Blue has performed together since splitting in 2009.
Estonia and Germany are top picks, as well. Lena, last year’s winner, is representing Germany again, a fact which has led many viewers to believe that will count against her in this year’s competition. As such, her odds of winning with “Taken by a Stranger” are just 20/1.
This year’s competition is expected to be an exciting event, so be sure to tune in and vote for your favourite act.
