Today, an increasing number of services and businesses are moving their operations online. However, over 8 million people across the UK have never used the internet, thus missing out on a wide range of opportunities that are only available in the digital world.
Race Online 2012 is a government-run campaign to make the UK the first country in which every person is able to access the internet. The initiative has gained a great deal of support from many sponsors and online bingo operators are getting involved as well.
Volunteers for the cause are called “Digital Champions”, and it is their goal to spread the word. They can do through five different outlets: inspiring others to try the internet, teach them how to use online resources, inform others about good deals on computers and internet connections, donate equipment and getting their colleagues involved.
Mecca Bingo will run its campaign at various land-based bingo halls. Players and employees will be available to help others who are not familiar with using the internet, directing them to free training courses and answering any questions they may have. Many other organizations across the country are getting involved, such as the Post Office and Boy Scouts.
The BBC is also running a campaign, encouraging people across the country to help friends, relatives and neighbours get up and running n the internet.
