Since the 1800s, the game of bingo has been a popular fundraising tool for churches and charities. Today, the game still holds on to its charitable roots, as many individuals across the UK use bingo events to fundraise for a wide range of worthy causes.
Christine Roberts of Whitehaven recently raised hundreds of pounds in memory of her daughter, whom she had lost the previous year to a blood clot. Using a charity bingo event, Roberts was able to gather members of her community to unite and raise money for Lifeblood: The Thrombosis Charity.
According to the News & Star, Roberts was able to raise £330 for the charity, which aims to promote awareness and raise funds for research. This year, Lifeblood has launched a campaign called Spot The Clots, which aims to improve education about Thrombosis among medical professionals.
“We wanted to help the charity in whatever way we could, in the hope that other people may be educated about the disease”, she says.
Roberts is very pleased with the result of her charity bingo event. She has expressed thanks to the local community for making the fundraiser a success.
