Bingo Hall in Eastbourne Shuts Down

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 - Tammy F.

Yet another bingo hall has shut its doors in the UK. Unlike many of the recent closures, this hall was fairly new; however, players and staff of the bingo hall are devastated by the loss of the venue. This is just one of over a dozen closures that have taken place this year, as a number of external factors continue to affect the fate of the land-based bingo industry.

As in the case with many of the other recent bingo hall closures, the smoking ban was cited as a main cause for a major revenue loss. In addition, players also turned away from the land-based bingo hall as the increased bingo tax was a cause for concern.

As a result of the closure, fifteen employees are now out of jobs. The blow is made more devastating by the fact that Eastbourne has a very high unemployment rate.

Players will have a less difficult time replacing the venue, however. Online bingo websites offer former-land based bingo players the same experience they would receive at traditional bingo halls. In addition to offering up great prizes, players can also get the same social experience by taking part in the in-game chat rooms and using social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
