Women in Gaming Awards

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011 - Alfie Williams

The international gaming industry was previously thought to be a male-dominated market. Much like professional poker, females were formerly left out of the industry. Now, women are making a name for themselves on both sides of the market, as players and as business moguls. To celebrate the achievements of these powerful women, the IGA is holding an awards ceremony to honor Women in Gaming.

Many online gaming companies have made it a goal to have equal employment opportunities for both men and women. In some companies, women have emerged as driving forces. These companies present many of the nominees for this year’s awards. For example, Paddy Power, Betfair and Sporting Bet all have multiple entries in each category.

The awards recognize leaders, innovators and teams in the online gaming industry. There are other categories to nominate professionals that have made different contributions.

For example, there is the Hidden Talent of the Year Award, which is awarded to a woman who is invaluable to the industry, despite the fact that her efforts may not be obviously visible. There is also the Star of the Future award for up and coming professionals in the field.
