I'm an 80's girl; Human League, Spandau Ballet and Queen, that's my era! Growing up in an industrial town in the North West was fun, we made it fun anyway. Roller disco on Thursday night started the weekend, then the Alex or Stockie racing on a Saturday afternoon, just to see the 'boys'. Off to the local Working Men's club to play bingo and persuade Dad in to buying me half a cider and black finished Saturday night off just fine in those days. Fish, chips and mushy peas, my favourite tea. Lobby and dumplings, Mum's Sunday roast; I was never going to be a size zero really!

Next came the 90's. Me, I was busy getting married and having babies during that decade. July 1989 the wedding of the century occurred with 300 guests to the 'night do'. The same day a few years earlier Di and Charles tied the knot and in the years that pursued us girls did it in the same style big meringue dress as the famous Princess. Abroad holidays to more far flung destinations followed; Greece and Turkey made us feel very cosmopolitan. Chinese and Indian food arrived up North and we felt almost international! For me a lot of the 90's are a complete blur and I'm not talking about Blur v Oasis, I mean babies, nappies, feeds and more babies, followed by slimming classes, shakes and bars and oh yes, the good old egg and grapefruit diet, non of which did the trick!

Millennium Eve really was a fabulous night, spent in a big marquis at my friend's house. I'd saved up all year and we had everything and all the trimmings besides; friends, music, fireworks, entertainment (a rendition of the Spice Girls and Take That was hilarious) smoked salmon and delicious puddings too! With the kids growing up, now travel further afield pursued and by then I was happy to venture across the pond if it meant meeting Mickey and Minnie; happy days! The noughties brought adventure and excitement, and with the chance to emigrate to warmer climes, I soon found myself speaking Spanglish, eating paella, loving tapas and drinking wine with the local... lots of it... and the rest, as they say, is history! x
